Rheo Knee Patient

In 1976, I was thrown from a horse. When I was thrown, I broke my ankle and was diagnosed with Gas Gangrene. My physician tried saving the leg without amputation, but without success. Because of the severity I ended up going into a coma. At that point they decided to amputate my leg, and it was removed from the middle of my knee.

I was in the hospital for approximately four weeks. I have had many prosthetic devices and they never fit well. because I am so active I would constantly break them. That is when Darrel, from Hackley Orthotics & Prosthetics, talked to me about the Rheo Knee. Darrel gave me a video to take home and watch and I was hooked. I knew that if I wanted to stay active the Reho Knee is what I needed.

My particular health insurance did not pay the full amount. So, I took out a second mortgage on my home because I felt so strongly about it.

Before the Rheo knee:

  • walking down stairswas difficult.
  • I would continually break my prosthetic.
  • I was limited in the activities I could preform.

After the Rheo Knee

  • I can walk to the beach
  • I can  walk down steps with ease
  • I can even keep up with my friends when we go shopping
  • I can go horse back riding
  • I walk in the city
  • I enjoy working out on the treadmill
  • I lift weights
  • I play golf.

I would recommend the rheo knee for those active patients that don’t like to be slowed down. Darrel from Hackley Orthotics & Prosthetics has been great and I highly recommend giving them a try.

Custom Mask Patient

This patient is a jockey at a local racetrack and unfortunately, was flipped over the top of his horse. He received multiple facial fractures. He was not allowed to race again without protection. This custom mask allowed him to race again, and prevented him from sustaining permanent injuries.
